NEW SEASON

Key Dates for the 2026/2027 Season

In this article, we summarize what you need to know about the 2026/2027 season of the Merkantil Bank Liga NB II and the MOL Hungarian Cup.

Merkantil Bank Liga NB II

The 2026/2027 season of the Merkantil Bank Liga NB II begins on Sunday 26th July 2026, and ends on Sunday 23rd May 2027. Following the 30th round, the team finishing in second place in the league will face a promotion playoff on Saturday, May 29.

The first international break begins on September 21st, following Matchday 8, after which the league resumes on October 11th. Following Matchday 13, another international break will take place from November 9th through to the 17th. The third international break will run from March 22 through 30, 2027.

The NB II autumn season concludes on November 29th with Round 15, while the spring season begins on February 7th, 2027.

Sixteen teams will compete in the league in a home-and-away format. After the 30th round, the league champion will be promoted to NB I; the second-place team will play a single-game playoff against the 11th-place team from the first division at a neutral stadium; and the 15th- and 16th-place teams will be relegated to NB III.

In the event of a tie in points, the team with more wins takes precedence. If that is also tied, then it will be determined in the following order: goal difference, more goals scored, head-to-head results, fair play ranking, and finally, a draw.

The official match day for the Merkantil Bank Liga NB II is Sunday; in addition, according to the competition rules, weekend league matches may also be played on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. There are no midweek rounds on the competition schedule.

MOL Hungarian Cup

The 2026/2027 cup competition begins on August 1st. Clubs from NB I and NB II will enter the competition in the third round (September 12–13) as part of the top 64.

If there is a difference in division between the teams drawn against each other, the lower-division team will have home advantage. For teams in the same division, the team that has had home advantage fewer times in previous rounds will play at home. If they are tied on this criterion, the match will be held at the home stadium of the team drawn first in the draw. Ties will be decided in a single match.

The final will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2027, at the Puskás Arena.
