Genk, Basel and Sporting were all in action over the weekend
FC Basel played out a 1-1 draw in Bern, when they were the visitors against Young Boys. Our Europa League opponents fielded the following side: Sommer - Steinhöfer, Sauro, Dragovic, Park - David Degen, Fabian Frei, Diaz, Salah - Streller, Alex Frei. Their subs included Stocker, Cabral and Zoua. A crowd of around 23,000 turned out and saw Basel's goal arrive, thanks to a 74th minute strike from Streller. Basel are currently in fourth place in their domestic league, having won three of their first nine games. They have managed to draw the remaining five, on top of just one defeat.
Genk travelled to Charleroi and came away with a 2-1 win. Their goals came from Vossen and Gorius, in the 8th round of the Belgium league. Mario Been's side began the match with just one change to their starting eleven, from the side that faced Videoton last week: Van Hout - Koulibaly, Hyland, Joseph-Monrose, Simaeys, Hamalainen, Gorius, Nadson, Buffel, De Ceulaer and Vossen. Csereként replaced Masika, while Plet came on for Barda. Genk are now fourth in their championship, sitting six points off leaders Brugge.
Sporting have began their own league campaign with difficulty. They picked up their first win on Monday evening. The Lisbon side beat Gil Vicente 2-1 at home to collect the points. It appeared as if the bad form would continue during the game, after Sporting fell behind in the sixth minute. However, they turned things around in the final fifteen minutes, with their goals coming from Diego Capel and Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
