Videoton help out with charity match in aid of the recent disaster

Vidi travelled to Veszprem on Wednesday to face Devecser

Videoton played their part in aid of the recent disaster that has struck the western part of Hungary. Local side Devecser, provided the opposition in this charity match, which was played to race money for the victims of the crises. The town of Devecser suffered two deaths, when the sudden toxic substance inundated the area on Monday. The disaster is now thought to be equivalent in size to the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster.

Government figures estimate up to 700,000 cubic metres (184 million gallons) of industrial waste has leaked from a collapsed reservoir in the northern town of Ajka.

The game itself saw Videoton win by a 12-0 scoreline, but the scoreline was not important, and the main emphasis was on raising money. Almost 1 million forint was raised, and club owner Istvan Garancsi rounded the figure off to the million mark. Vidi fielded the first team in the first half, and then gave opportunities to the reserve and youth players to show what they could do in the second half.
