Videoton round off the Slovenian tour with a draw

Friendly result: Arsenal Kijev - Videoton FC 1-1 (0-1)

In very hot conditions and with the temperature being around the 30c mark, Vidi kicked off their final friendly match against a Ukrainian side, which finished fifth in their domestic league. Vidi had more possession inside the first ten minutes of the game, with both sides trying to gain the upper hand. It was Nemanja Nikolics who found himself on the end of a good move after 11 minutes to give Vidi an early lead. The Kiev side then began to create chances in front of the Vidi goal following the early strike. A Videoton defender cleared in the last moment following a good cross from the wing as the pressure continued. The ball remained in the middle of the pitch for the rest of the first half hour of the match, but there was a good tempo in testing conditions. In fact there was more fight and determination than in perhaps an average first division match in the Hungarian league. The 33rd minute then resulted in a Vidi midfielder beating three players to race clear, before hitting a shot from 22 meters out, but the ball bounced in front of the Ukrainian keeper, causing problems at the same time before dealing with it. There were no more efforts on goal in the remainder of the half as the match official blew for half time.

The game continued at a good tempo despite the hot weather as both teams competed for each ball. The Kiev manager replaced his entire side during the break, but the pattern of game did not change too much as a result. Both sides continued to enjoy the same amount of possession as they had done in the first half. A 55th minute corner saw a Videoton player head just over the goal as the red and blues stepped things up. Arsenal Kiev then drew level with some fortune in the 65th minute. A long range shot took a deflection off a defender, with the rebound being blasted in to the back of the net with plenty of power by the Kiev striker. Paulo Sousa also made some changes to the team in the final 20 minutes. Even though Vidi had more of the ball in the final part of the match, they were unable to turn that into a goal as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. So Vidi end their ten-day tour of Slovenia, having played three useful friendly games. The players will now spend two days resting, before they return to the Sostoi stadium on Monday.
