Match Report: Confident victory over Mezokovesd

Vidi picked up the 3 points on Wednesday evening to move up to 4th in the OTP league table.

The original game between the two sides was due to be played in match 3 of the OTP league season. However, it was postponed due to Vidi's Champions League participation and rescheduled for the 26th September. Vidi took on fourth in the table Mezokovesd at the Pancho Arena. They knew that 3 points against the visiting side would see them lift up to fourth spot.

Manager Marko Nikolic chose to rest Paulo Vinicius with Loic Nego starting at right back and Attila Fiola partnering Roland Juhasz at the heart of defence. There was also a start for summer signing Georgi Milanov. Keeper Adam Kovacsik continues to recover from his injury, which meant that Tomas Tujvel continued in goal.

Mezokovesd had never managed to win away against Vidi but they almost took the lead on 7 minutes: Fiola cleared the danger ahead of Drazic, with the ball falling to Cseri, and his shot was heading in but Stopira did really well to clear the ball. The same player again tried his luck but his shot went wide. Vidi had a chance before the actual goal: Kovacs played in Milanov, who released Scepovic, but the forward shot into the side netting. The breakthrough came after 18 minutes with Huszti's corner finding the back of the head of Juhasz and the ball ended in the net (1-0).

The lead was doubled shortly after on 20 minutes: A move involving Nego, Kovacs, Hadzic and Milanov finally found Stopira on the left and his low shot into the middle deflected in off Katanec for an own goal (2-0). It was almost 3-0 after 25 minutes after Kovacs found Huszti, whose cross into the middle was headed for the near post by Hadzic, but keeper Dombo reached out to tip it onto the bar. The sides went in at the break with the score at 2-0.

Vidi had more of the possession in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. There was a good move that ended with Milanov firing over from 13 meters on the left. The first chance for the visitors came after 59 minutes when Drazic hit a shot at goal from 19 meters, which Tujvel comfortably held. Nego did well to stop a dangerous move from Drazic and Cseri after 62 minutes, but it was Vidi that always looked likelier to increase the lead. That was confirmed after 65 minutes when Milanov ran from his own half forward and although it appeared that he would lose the ball, he did manage to find Scepovic unselfishly, and the forward made no mistake to make it 3-0.

The continued with a big chance for Mezokovesd to score a consolation goal after 69 minutes. A cross from Farkas found Cseri, whose shot went just over the bar. He was then substituted and former Vidi forward Andre Alves came on to replace him. It was the first time that he appeared in front of Vidi supporters since the 3rd December 2011, which was followed by a move to Cyprus.

Szeles had a powerful shot from 20 meters go wide of the bottom left post after 77 minutes. Marko Nikolic brought on Patkai in the 81st minute in place of Milanov. The midfielder was fresh into the action with a shot that Dombo saved in the visiting goal.

Hodzic also came on in place of Scepovic and Berecz was the third change when he replaced Huszti. Mezokovesd grabbed a consolation after 93 minutes from a free kick, which Vajda curled in to the bottom corner (3-1).

The win took Vidi up to 4th place and they still have a game in hand of the other sides. The team are next in action on Sunday away to DVTK.
