Videoton take giant step into the next round

Hungarian Cup: Videoton - Haladas 3-0 (0-0)

Videoton put one foot in the door of the next round of the Hungarian cup on a rainy Tuesday evening at the Sostoi stadium. The first half was a dull affair with Vidi struggling to get through a tight Haladas defence. There was hardly anything of note to write about in the opening 45 minutes, for the smaller than usual crowd. The Hungarian cup quarter finals are being played on a two-legged basis with the return leg, in Szombathely, due to be played in December. However, Videoton will fancy their chances after a second half performance, which saw them score three times, twice from the penalty spot, to make it a very hard task for Haladas in the second leg.

The breakthrough came on the hour as sub Andras Gosztonyi, was pulled down by the visiting defender. Andre Alves made no mistake from the spot to put Vidi ahead. It was 2-0 after 71 minutes, after defender Marko Andics broke into the box and was brought down. Dusan Vasziljevics took responsibility for the penalty, and sent it into the corner of the net. Vasziljevics was having a good half, creating many chances and also being on the end of others. 2-0 became 3-0 after 83 minutes when a corner form the left by Vasziljevics was headed home form Akos Elek.

Haladas struggled to get the ball out of their own half for much of the second period, with the Videoton defence completely on top. The red and blues have a busy period, which includes three games in the space of six days. The attention now switches back to the Monicomp league division one at the weekend, when Gyorgy Mezey's side travel to nearby Győri ETO.
